What Is Weed and Feed?
Weed & feed is a term applied to lawn fertilizer that both kill weeds and helps to create a healthy lawn. In general, it gets rid of the ugly weeds while helping your grass better absorb water and nutrients to improve its growth.
Scotts Turf Builder Triple Action provides three benefits in one bag. This 3-in-1 formula kills and prevents weeds, while feeding and strengthening your lawn. It kills broadleaf weeds, including dandelions and clover, and prevents crabgrass for up to 4 months.
It also prevents other grassy weeds like barnyardgrass, fall panicum, foxtail, and annual bluegrass. Scotts Turf Builder Triple Action can be applied to Kentucky Bluegrass, Perennial Ryegrass, Tall Fescue, Fine Fescue, Bermudagrass, Bahiagrass, Centipedegrass, and Zoysiagrass.
Have a dandelion problem? Apply with a Scotts spreader when dandelions are actively growing. Make sure the grass is wet from dew or watering before applying to help the particles adhere to weed leaves. After 24 hours, water the lawn to wash particles into the soil to prevent germination of crabgrass and other listed grassy weeds.
Do not allow people and pets to re-enter the treated area until dusts have settled. A 33.94 lb. bag treats 12,000 sq. ft.

When should I put down Scotts triple action?
- For spring application, apply when daytime temperature is between 60°F and 80°F and dandelions are actively growing. Apply before the 3rd or 4th mowing of the year. A fall application may be made to control fall-germinating winter weeds and cool season perennial weeds such as dandelion and clover.
- Timing is everything to get a great looking lawn. If you apply weed and feed too early, you risk the chance that you will miss attacking the weeds that have not yet started to grow. But if you wait too long, the weeds will start to take over your lawn and your grass won’t get the nutrition it needs. The ideal time to apply weed and feed is in the early spring, just about the same time that you notice your lawn needs the first mow of the season.
- On Bahiagrass and Centipedegrass lawns, wait until after the 2nd mowing of the year but DO NOT treat before mid-March. In the fall, DO NOT treat Centipedegrass after the 1st of October and DO NOT treat Bahiagrass after the 1st of November.

Look for the following symptoms of an over fertilized lawn.

Follow The Directions and It Will Work Great
Scotts turf builder triple action is a great product. I’ve used it for years and find it a step above Lowes Sta Green Weed and Feed. Use it early in the spring when the grass really starts to grow quickly. The longer daylight and rainy days provides great growing conditions for the grass. And, of course, the dandelions and other weeds start to grow too. I’ve used this product in previous years, so, I already know what to do and when to do it.
Spread this on your lawn early and maybe a couple of times during the year to create a great looking lawn and take care of dandelions and other weeds easily. At first you may not think anything had been accomplished. However a few days later the weed will start wilting and most eventually die. Then the grass will start getting greener. After two weeks you should see almost all the dandelions are gone for sure.
Takes Care Of Most Weeds But Not All Of Them
Some of the tougher weeds like crabgrass, chickweed or violet will need a specific product to kill. Some of these are expensive products but you can find weed control for every weed out there at your Lowes store.
Scotts Triple Action Creates A Beautiful Lawn
I have used this product for at least 10 years and the biggest thing I can suggest is don’t forget how much time it takes from applying to weeds turning brown. It takes time and won’t happen over night. And then you need to wait for the existing lawn to come back to life thick and green.
Follow directions exactly and use a spreader. Don’t try to fertilize your lawn this using an old coffee can or try sprinkling weed and feed by hand. It will be a disaster and will burn your lawn. My spreader is a little old now, but let me tell you that my Scotts Fertilizer spreader is as good as new. Always wash out the spreader after use. Most lawns come back to life easily with a little knowledge and a good product.
And if you have neighbors nearby like I do, give them some too. Or offer to spread a little on their lawn while you are doing yours. Just make sure you know what you are doing so you don’t burn the grass. I really do get people walking by who comment on how great my front lawn looks.
When they ask how I did it. I just reply, the Scotts Turf Builder Triple Action Way, that’s how.
