Most of these deals you can find at Lowes, Home Depot, Menards and Walmart. Try your local home and garden centers too! You will be surprised by what you can find at the end of summer.

So you can get some great deals on lawn mowers, power washers, garden tractors, edgers and blowers. Don’t be afraid to ask for a little discount if you are willing to take a floor model or out of the box display.

Waiting for “after clearance” clearance can produce the absolute lowest price. But settling for what’s left will sacrifice selection, and most likely quality. This is where jumping on Labor Day sales and summer clearance deals on the bigger ticket items for the home, patio furniture, grills, lawn mowers can save you big bucks on great stuff.
One word of caution when looking for clearance items at Lowes in September. Waiting for clearance can give you the absolute lowest price, but sometimes you will have to settle for what’s left. For example patio furniture this year will have a very limited selection compared to other years. I wrote about it here.
Usually, early September is a great time to buy patio furniture, but stores started lowering prices in early August this year.
Don’t Forget About Grass Seed
Another tip for fall. September isn’t just a great time to buy flowers, trees and shrubs. It’s also a great time to plant grass seed as well. Most people plant in the spring and enjoy the warmer temperatures and sun in the summer months, but root systems also expand well into the fall.
You can plant grass seed in most cool season states until early October. So continue to plant grass seed, perennials. shrubs and trees now, and you’ll get to enjoy them next year without all the work in the spring.
